The Vagus nerve, which controls the stomach, intestine, bladder, and heart. The vagus nerve transmits it's influence to the various organs through the action of a chemical intermediary, or messenger. The messenger is a simple chemical substance called ACETYLCHOLINE. The solanaceous alkaloids work by blocking the action of acetylcholine and thus are classed as Anticholinergic drugs. Acetylcholine is a chemical messenger released by the cholinergic nerves, such as the vagus nerve.
