HYPOTHALAMUS = A collection of cells in the brain both nerve cells and as an endocrine or hormone secreting, gland at the same time. Nerve cells communicate to other nerve cells, and endocrine glands communicate with various sites in the body by sending chemical messages thru the bloodstream.
The Hopothalmus is the link between the brain and the environment, both inside and outside the body. Anychange ocurring in the enviroment is detected by nerve cells then transmit the nature of change to the hypothalmus. Hypothalmus then evaluates the situtation and when necessary alerts the appropriate areas of the body. It regulates the body's hormones controls nerve function, such as tempture, hunger and blood pressure. The hypothalamus, the control center of the body, like a thermostate.
Simply put it is a area at the base of the brain that regulates bodily functions, such as body temperature, hunger and thirst.
