90% of Americans are omega-3 deficient.
Omga-3 fat is anti- inflammatory (reduces inflamation), whereas omgea-6 fat is pro-inflammatory(promotes inflamation) . The omega-6/ omega-3 ratio should be 1/1; however due to the decrease in omega-3 intake (especially cold water fish, flaxseed, walnuts, and increase in OMEGA-6 intake (especially corn oil, red meat, The OMEGA-6 , OMEGA-3 ratio in America is approximately 10/1 to 20/1.
Following the Mediterranean diet will provide ample amount of OMEGA-3 fat and decrease the amount of OMEGA-6 fat. OMEGA-3 supplements (FISH OIL) can be beneficial, especially if cold water fish consumption is limted.
Mediterranean Diet consists of whole grains, legumes, lean protien, fresh fruits and veges and olive oil.
