2007 Study, Researchers evaluated the association of sex hormone levels in the blood with common BPH urinary tract symptoms.
260 men, 60 years of age and older, blood levels of Testosterone, ESTRADIOL and other sex hormones measured, 128 cases had 2 of four symptoms ( excessive urination at night, hesitancy, incomplete emptying, and weak stream ) the 132 men in control group had no urinary symptoms. Results showed that BHP suffers had statistically significnatly greater estradiol concentrations tan symptom free controls. BHP suffers had a higher levels of marker for a metabolite for dihydrotestosterone ( DHT another documented factor in the development of BHP ). Men with greater estradiol concentration had a 1. 78 times higher incidence of urinary tract symptoms. A greater incidence of urinary tract symtoms occured in men with the highest levels of dihydrotestosterone metabolite, wheras blood testosterone level showed no effect on urinary symptoms. Doctors quoted as saying this study----------
" In this cross - sectional study represenative of older U.S.A. men , circulating AAG , a metabolite of dihyrotestosterone, and Estradiol were associated with an increased risl of having lower urinary tract symptoms ". (endquote )
